How council waste collection works
Each Sydney council runs its own waste services: regular bin collection, green waste collection, and scheduled or pre-booked clean-up collections for bulky waste. Rules, dates and accepted items vary by council area — what one council accepts, another may not.
Green waste collections
Many councils offer a green waste bin or scheduled green waste collection. What's accepted (branches, clippings, no noxious weeds) and the collection schedule differ by council. Some run free green waste drop-off events at certain times — check your council for details.
- North Sydney Council green waste — check their waste and recycling pages for bin rules.
- Blacktown Council rubbish pick up — see Blacktown City Council for collection schedules and clean-up bookings.
- Hornsby Council waste collection — visit Hornsby Shire Council for kerbside and clean-up details.
Clean-up dates and bulky collections
Council clean-up dates and bulky waste collections are set per council. Some run scheduled area-wide dates; others require you to book. Items must usually be presented within limits (size, weight, no hazardous materials) and placed correctly the night before.
- Woollahra Council clean up dates — see Woollahra Municipal Council for the next scheduled clean-up.
- Council rubbish collection and clean-up dates vary by area — always confirm with your council.
When private removal is the faster option
If your items are outside council limits, you can't wait for the next clean-up date, or you need things removed from inside rather than the kerb, private rubbish removal may suit you better. We collect on your schedule and do the lifting — see our council cleanup vs private removal guide for the comparison.
Find your council
